73A Discourse in Verse with the Lord
The Battle of a Human Soul
Gallant is my love for you
I pledge in this discourse
For now I know your counsel true
Has a high and mighty source
I hence forsake the folly past
All vile and morbid sin
And pray to God, my soul, at last
Grows strong enough to win!
Reprieve, my love, lest to be stoned
Alas, ineffaceable sin
So with remorse, I do atone
Ooh, will I be forgiven?
The strength I draw from you is real
And Your love, I sense, will grow
But, some messages are still surreal
So, bear with me if I’m slow …
Great fortune is my fate to be
Into your service bound
Perhaps, just serendipity
Has made me run aground ?

While I question my deservedness
You outreach for my hand
And I capture for a moment, bliss
As you raise me loft, again
And from this place, can I see far
Both forward and aback
The light ahead doth lateral mar
Into a hollow black …
Camarilla calls from Abaddon
The devil’s own cabal
Intrigue temps through lust and song
Cajoling to enthral …
In false pretence, I bid adieu
Then turned, ostensibly
What callous chaos did ensue
And stymied attempts to flee!
But, what of one’s inherent good
Did it, now also flee?
Despondently, I thought, I should
As this place is not for me …
My rational no longer worked
Inside, just swelled despair
While the bondage of temptation lurked
Ever closer to my lair
The quest for love was nearly nigh
Acceptance was far won
My health allowed just one more try
The route was through God’s Son …
For then I learned humility
And grappled with my will
To effect change of destiny
And, to covenant, fulfil
Alas, Great Battle fore did loom …
— And quickly came my way —
Some weapon I must brandish soon
With none, I knelt to pray …
At this point, You did emerge
To delve into my head
And proceed to my worry purge
As you parried in my stead
Then, Helmet, Shield, and Sword came, Lo!
To rest right by my feet
And with these tools Thou didst bestow
Hell’s Angel did I meet
A vicious tumult did ebb and flow
While I learned that I was not alone
But Addiction’s weight is hard to throw
It is pervasive and quick to clone
So with unscabbard’ sword and fended bust
And vigilance as my inflexible thought
I now Duck, Parry, Lunge and Thrust !
Let benevolence guard my defences not !
Spiritual Warfare; Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of
The Shadow knows how to usurp
Your clamorous ascent
The last beguiler to desert
And, the first one to prevent …
Dark shadows just grow stronger
As you close in on the light
They stalk to foil asunder
And lie in wait, to fight
So, The School of Hard Knocks knows me well
— I’ve graduated thrice —
Through Mercy only, I live to tell
Of its exorbitant price
They sell all your possessions
And barter with your soul
While paranoid obsessions
Exact their heavy toll
Until, alone, with dross to sell
Your stark calamity
Reverbs through the Depths of Hell
The Devil’s victory …
For ready to strike
And ready to trip
The Three Headed Dragon
Is quick as a whip
This Beast is our foe
Whether fabled or not
Remember, wise fear
Is Bondage not sought …
The fear of the Lord,
Will part us from sin
His Word as our Sword
Is the Wisdom we win
This Wisdom of Word
Is knowledge of truth
The Humble man’s forge
To set himself loose
For bound to the Master
Us forgers design
Our liberty and freedom
While life has still time
As others still loose
And gamble their ways
Having trouble to choose
The dark, lighting their way
While the Master of Sleuths
Will smell all your fears,
Your joy or excitement,
Frustration, anger, or tears
And, as we trudge on
Past quagmire and lore
True wisdom we don
And brief triumph we score
For two heads are now gone
In the weeks we’ve abstained
And while the last head is drawn
We must harness our reign!
For this Battle is won
But the War still prevails
And our work is not done —
Only quitting, now fails …
While The Three Headed Dragon is fiction
It is a metaphor for addiction
It challenges use, which leads to abuse
And our feelings are its predilection
It will feign its submission
A counterfeit guise
A ruse of remission
A malice of lies!
Crafted with wit
To thwart bit by bit
The Dragon will prey
Until your last day
It’s not just in hell
This Dragon doth live
It’s part of our psyche
It takes what we give
So, Nay Onto Death!
No, Never this Way!
Now, will my last breath
Be honest today?
Mark 10:27 "And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible."
For the past is now gone
The answer, not there
And the future, beyond
I throw not a care
Today I possess
And from dawn do I choose
The armour of God
And the knowledge of truth
Now also with shoe
Do I have for my dress
As I gird up my loins
I am swift to address
Each thought of the day
To relax my defence
Or my voyage to stay
Or my compass pretence
Instead do I praise
The source of my light
As I battle by day
He protects me by night
So too even this hell
And furor, barely at bay
Will fade and diminish
Today, yes today.
