Fire Fighters Prayer

(I did not write this poem, it has been recorded and venerated here just the same as it is written and carved in the public monument to Fire Fighters.)

FIRE FIGHTER’S PRAYER

.

I am called to duty,

God, whenever flames may rage;

give me strength to save some life,

whatever be its age.

Help me embrace a little child

before it is too late,

or save an older person

from the horror of that fate

Enable me to be alert

and hear the weakest shout,

and quickly and efficiently

to put the fire out.

I want to fill my calling

and to give the best in me;

To guard my every neighbour,

and protect his property.

And if, according to my fate,

I am to lose my life;

Please, bless with your protecting hand,

my family and those I’ve loved in life.

.

A Noble, Selfless, and Professional Trade.

...

I am not a firefighter, but I proudly know some.

Firefighters are often first on the scene of Emergency calls, even before Police or Ambulance. Needless to say, they have been trained in many aspects of Rescue Operations, but their specialty is fighting fires. This is an inherently dangerous occupation, but Professional Firefighters view it as an opportunity to unselfishly serve the public with only their best abilities and training. Their compensation is a reward greater than just monetary gain; it is mostly the satisfaction of knowing that they have protected the lives and properties of their fellow citizens and others in need to the best of their well-trained ability and talent, which is noble indeed.

I think all firefighters are great; and many of them are true heroes from the heart of this land who have risked their lives in order to save others in perilous and dangerous circumstance - and they are ready to do it again on a daily basis! That’s awesome! Here’s to them! Support your local Firefighters - yield right away, and be careful out there!

I pay specific homage to the lives and memories of the Fire Fighters and Emergency Workers who gave the ultimate sacrifice on Tuesday September 11, in the year of our Lord 2001. God bless their living spirits, and let them Rest in Peace.

TD,

I appreciate this hub very much. I give highest respect to all those who put their own lives at risk to save and protect man. No greater love.

Recently, I became sick and had to call for the ambulance to take me to the hospital. Well, while being transported, I learned one of the ambulance paramedics was also a firefighter. I shook his hands and could not thank him enough for what he does for his fellow man. He was humble in spirit and I knew in my spirit that regardless of how things appear in the world, God always has His people who will be there for us.

Thank you for this tender and loving acknowledgment for our firefighters.

Forever His,

Not all of us are all of us can serve so selflessly. Thank God for those who can. What a wonderful way to honor those who do.

What a beautiful tribute to the men who risk their lives and many times it goes unnoticed. They are heroes in my eyes, not many can measure up to this awesome calling. Thank you for sharing!!

reddog1027, Thanks for your comment, you are so right - thank God for those that can, and do! I believe just being in the profession is a noble thing to do, especially by those who dedicate their time and talents. They may not all have to necessarily be in the zone of danger, but those who are dedicated professionals certainly constructively help out the teams of heroes in action!

singlmomat52, thanks for your great comment! You are right, they and their heroics many times do go unnoticed! I hope that they all can be respected and remembered, especially as this solemn anniversary of 9/11 again is near.

Dim Flaxenwick, thank you for your comment and for keeping my hubtivity in your sights! Thank you also for correctly acknowledging that this poem is in fact a prayer; it is a venerable maxim of the observable (and perhaps necessary) faith of Fire Fighters. Hallelujah for that!

Awesomely beautiful! I served the Bakersville Volunteer Fire and Rescue in Bville, NC. I invented the Roan Moan bike ride to help with their fund raising. Fire departments never have enough funds. I will link this to my hub on the Brummets Creek Fire. God bless Timothy!

Thanks for your comment Micky Dee, and I apologize for taking so long to reply - I just got back on-line at my new address last month.

P.S. I linked your Firefighting Hub below, because it adds a great awareness and message of thanks to all the volunteer Firefighters out there!
